Cardinals across all grade levels prepare to join their voices in song, spreading holiday cheer to all their peers! Bringing hundreds of voices together in unison is a feat of musical strength. That is why we would like each grade level to prepare to lead a song the rest of us can follow your singing on. With all grades taking ownership in the event we are sure to have a wonderful time giving each other the GIFT of MUSIC!

Students experienced Native American melodies in Minor Tonality- Land of the Silver Birch and Canoe Song partnered together with an Ostinato "Boom -didi-eye-dy" to make beautiful harmonies in 4th and 5th grade. Partner songs and Ostinati are types of singing which create Harmony.
After doing a "Step Inside" of composer, Ethan Bortnick and Eric Whitacre, students discovered composers think a musical idea, called audiating. Sometimes just a short 2-3 note pattern is all you need to help get the creative juices flowing. Students have been learning to audiate beat, rhythm and melody all year to make sense of music independently.
All discovered composers write because they have something inmportant to say. Doing it in a musical way is special and powerful. Click on the LInks to here these magnificent compositions!: My 3rd Grade Bemis and Martell Students,
One of the most exciting things a musician can do is create their own music! Check out this composer, Eric Whitacre who helped compose music for Pirates of Caribbean and also brought together thousands of voices in a virtual choir to sing his other musical creations! 1. Read through the What Do You Know Now? questions on pg. 11 in your magazine. 2. Read the article in your Music Express Magazine p.10-11 3. Do the "Step Inside" the composer and "See/Hear Think Wonder" on his music. If you have your headphones you can also listen and watch the following in class during testing. If you do not, check it out at home:)!
Students considered 3 different styles of music to arrange their version of the Bemis Pep Song! Checking for correct pitch in the melody and rhythms in the words, students maintained a steady tempo by thinking beat as they applied their best singing voice sound to collaborate with their classmates. They listened, compared and analyzed their voices for connections to the other voices in class and the background music. Click on this link to watch their Music Videoes.
